Shri Mahachandi Stotra – Jai Chandi Ambe Maharani

॥ iti ॥

Shri Mahachandi Stotra – Jai Chandi Ambe Maharani — Meaning

The hymn opens by praising Mother Chandi as the giver of blessings, the lion-riding Durga and the destroyer of evil. Names such as Uma, Bhavani and Shankara’s beloved bring her gentle maternal presence into view. References to the defeat of demons celebrate her power to uphold dharma and help the gods. As Sharada she represents learning, and as Lakshmi she grants abundance. Vaishno, Jwala and Kalika are remembered as forms of the same divine Mother.

The second part places the devotee’s anxieties, conflicts, sorrows and fears at her feet. Mentions of debt, illness, troubling dreams and harmful influences express the devotee’s distress and desire for shelter. Trusting her as the protector, the devotee seeks forgiveness for faults, dignity, strength, a fruitful livelihood and fulfilment of heartfelt hopes. The closing prayer asks for constant remembrance of her name and the shelter of her blessing hand, ending with a plea for Chaman’s well-being. Love, trust and surrender unite the hymn.
